Headspace & sensory overload
And suddenly there was some form of calmness in my head. While the whole world came to a stoodstill, I found a new amount of headspace and motivation. In daily life I always have to find the balance between sensory stimuli and rest. I can be a very bubble extravert person but I do need my alone time at home. Sometimes people don’t seem to understand this very well. I have always thought the desire for stimuli versus the need to have downtime is the factor in which people’s characters differ the most.
Don’t get me wrong, I miss cuddling my friends, massages, and being literally close to others these weeks, but the lack of pressure from all sides definitely makes me a better and a more focussed worker, so that way this crisis helps me a lot! On a daily basis we usually deal with so many appointments, messages, events, birthdays, holiday planning, expectations, crowds of people we meet or are supposed to meet, that sometimes it can just get too much, and even kind of paralyze me in getting anything done at all.
Probably the reason why living in a cottage in the middle of nowhere worked well for me and still appeals to me so much!
I have thought about it often and my own way is probably a sensitive way to react to stimuli, so wonder who else experiences this period the same? I hope you’re also finding more creativity, headspace and motivation of course! Keep well everyone!
Eat yourself happy!
I was on a beach yesterday enjoying the heatwave and I was a bit shocked to see the amount of people suffering serious obesity. I would never judge anyone for that as I know there might be causes at work that can’t be influenced easily. I do know however what it feels like to carry extra weight around. I was a bit overweight in the past and it still takes some effort trying to keep my BMI within the normal range. I love food!
I have been researching a lot about nutrition the past years since had to improve my diet and lifestyle to minimize symptoms of endometriosis. I found out this really helps for both the physical symptoms and the anxiety or tiredness that can come with it. No dairy, no alcohol, no sugar, no soy, little cafein, gluten, no processed foods, the right fish oils. It all helps me keeping a healthy body and a healthy mind!
Not sticking to the optimal diet for your own situation has effects that go a lot further than only physical diseases. Lately more and more is scientifically understood about the relation between an unhealthy intestinal microbiome and the mind! Anxiety, depression and many more diseases go hand in hand with problems of the intestines. I find this very interesting as this confirms my holistic view on health.
So basically, we can not only get ourselves in a good shape but also eat ourselves happy! Reducing stress, doing enough sports and getting a normal amount of sleep of course helps a lot for this aswell. Do you have similar experiences? I would like to hear your personal stories. Keep cool with the hot weather!
I’m sure many of you have set good intentions for the new year, especially when it comes to living more healthily, losing weight, doing more sports and so on. For me workouts, meditation, good sleeps, and keeping a diet have become part of my weekly routine and I’m actually starting to love it by now! After being diagnosed with endometriosis in 2017 I read ALL there was to read online about alternatives to get as fit as possible with this condition: alternatives to more surgery and hormonal treatments with unknown results and side effects.
Thankfully my consultant agreed that to keep a certain anti inflammatory diet was a great option for me! That the diet contained no cafein, no gluten, no milk, no sugar, no alcohol, no meat, no soy and no processed foods was a bit of a shock at first! So I only stick to parts of it, and I still love my tiny cup of morning coffee. Being a vegetarian is usually already seen as unsociable enough, and I don’t wanna lose all my friends and possible dates haha!
Anyway I found it very interesting to read more about it. So many things I wasn’t really aware of: like the effects certain foods have on our hormonal system, the effects of foods wrapped in plastics and what’s in our drinking water. Mind you, I don’t do my shopping at the ecological supermarket since it costs a fortune, but even on a budget healthy changes are definitely possible! One day I hope to have my own place where I have a veg garden and live an even purer and healthier lifestyle. It definitely has made me more conscious of the environment and how we live. And last but not least, it works! Not only for physical health but also mental wellbeing. Oh and I got rid of other complaints like asthma and eczema en route! Isn’t that great!
